Andrew “Andy” Wirth, President and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, is now the new chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board, and was appointed to this position by the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitor’s Authority. Mr. Wirth has 25 years experience in the mountain resort and hotel industry, and he helped to bring more flights to other resorts in Utah, Colorado, and Canada. Mr. Wirth believes that increasing air service to the region is key to the ski industry and gaming and business community, as well as the region’s economy. Along with his appointment as chairman, new members to the airport authority board sworn in are Lisa Gianoli, Jenifer Rose, and Jessica Sferrazza.

Mr. Wirth took over as CEO of Squaw Valley ski resort in 2010. It had previously been under the direction of the Cushing family for 70 years. Immediately he began a $70 million upgrade which helped place it in the top 20 percent of the skiing industry. Another change under Mr. Wirth’s direction was Squaw Valley’s merging with Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Customers can now purchase one ticket and be admitted to both resorts.

Andy Wirth understands the support good airport service is for the ski industry. As the new chairman of the airport authority board, he is bringing this knowledge and his experience in the ski resort industry together to improve the travel to and from the region, thus bolstering the region’s economy. Mr. Wirth took his seat as Chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board on July 9th, as reported by the Sierra Sun.
