Charles Koch is not a strange name to many Americans. Together with his brother David, they control the second-largest American company with diverse major investments across the economy. For a very long time, they have both been very vocal on political and policy matters in America. They have been involved in funding political candidates and campaigns and better still, building non-profit wings and organizations that they use to help the community in different ways.

Their current focus is on an organization referred to as Stand Together. Still in the start-up phase, it has intentions to raise more than %15 million so as to be able to strengthen the American fabric using venture philanthropy. The organization’s main role is to make a real difference to people’s lives by providing solutions to problems that they have. Contrary to what many people might like to think, it will not get involved in policy fights but rather, partnering with private groups so as to discuss the most prominent social problems.Charles Koch is a well-known American businessman and philanthropist born in 1935. He is the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Board Chairman for Koch Industries which together with David Koch, they inherited from their father and expanded. Originally, the company only used to have industries in the chemicals and oil industry fields. Currently, it processes fertilizers, minerals, polymers and fiber, pollination control equipment, consumer products and with interests in ranching and commodity trading.

Charles is also a well-known author. In the year 2007, he published a book called The Science of Success that talks very clearly about his unique management philosophy.

According to a Forbes survey of 2010, Koch Industries is the second-largest private company in the United States revenue-wise. In 2014, Charles also appeared in the history books as the world’s ninth richest individual. Two years earlier, he had appeared in the same list at number six with a net worth of $34 billion.

Charles is a staunch supporter of free-market oriented organizations that support education. He is also one of America’s passionate donors to the Republican Party and its candidates as well as different cultural and charitable organizations. Through the Koch Cultural Foundation(founded by his wife), he has also funded creative artists and projects.

He was born and still lives in Wichita, Kansas. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received a Bachelor of Science in General Engineering in 1957. The following year, he received his Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, he worked in various companies before going to work in his father’s company.
